Mental health = Confusing 🤦🏻‍♀️

Hello everyone – hope you’ve all had a good weekend. As well as sharing my drawings I’d like to share my thoughts and ideas on my Instagram as well 💭 mental health (to me at least) = confusing. My mental health is confusing to me because my issues and feelings can randomly intensify and l also struggle with episodes of depression which can be really debilitating 🧠

Obviously everyone’s mental health is very different but I do think it’s important to be supportive to each other both online and in the real world. I also think it’s great that self care is becoming more of a ‘thing’ now and it really is important in order to keep functioning in life.

I find that my mental health mixed with my sensory issues is always tough to deal with but I try to make time for self-care and enjoying the little things in life (e.g like running a bath, reading a good book, drawing, etc).

Yes, I have my own mental health problems. But I am always here to chat if you feel like you need someone to talk to or just a bit of support. (Please feel free to share my drawings just credit @21andsensory)

  1. I relate to a lot of what you write. I feel like I am a mix of HSP / Asperger’s and I have had depression and anxiety all my life. I am now 41 and life is getting easier to cope with now. I wish I’d had the knowledge about my ‘conditions’ when I was younger so that I could understand what was going on. Now I am aware of when I feel overloaded for example and I can do something about it rather than just feeling weird.
By the way, I am wondering if you have any experience of chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia (which I have)? It seems to be quite common among women on the autism spectrum and I am sure there is a link. My theory is that, for some people, constant internalisation of feelings and having to suppress natural reactions can manifest as chronic pain. Best wishes, Luna

    1. Hi Luna, it means all that you can relate to what I write. Interesting to hear that you are a mix of HSP/Aspergers and also struggle with depression and anxiety. So glad to hear you are coping easier now though. I’m 25 and I also wish that I’d had more knowledge about my ‘conditions’ when I was younger – would have been so helpful right?! That’s great you are now more aware of when you are overloading that’s really useful. I don’t have any experience go chronic pain – I do hope you are managing okay with your fibromyalgia. I am definitely very sensitive to pain (for example have past surgeries/injuries). I think you could be right though that it might be quite a common thing among women on the spectrum. Thanks again for your comment 🙂
