A day in my life (Autistic Graphic Designer) 💻

Hi everyone – this is a day in my life working from home as a Graphic Designer. I usually work in an open plan office but due to UK lockdown I have been working from home for the past 3 months (and I much prefer it!).

This is the first ever ‘vlog’ style thing I have uploaded so naturally I’m quite nervous about it. If you are interested in how I work from home my latest podcast episode on this topic went live on May 31st so if you would like to hear me talk about the pros and cons of working at home in more detail (and just generally rambling on like I usually do) search for 21andsensory wherever you usually get your podcasts!

Doodling Session and Q+A ✏️

Hi everyone! This is a video of an Instagram Live drawing session I did during the week. I’ll be doing more Instagram Live drawing sessions where you can ask me questions – so go follow me over there too!

ALSO:

Here is a link to another Instagram Live drawing session, this time I did it with the lovely Sophie from @curiosophie (8th May) and had a very chilled colouring session live ✏️

We coloured in each other’s artwork which was great fun. We thought it would be cool to hangout it acts as a lil’ distraction from everything that’s going on right now 🌍

We had some livestream issues – our connection kept dropping so this is the edited best bits!

Be sure to follow Sophie on her Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/curiosophie/

I was interviewed on the ‘Thoughty Auti’ podcast! 🧠

Hey everyone! Last week I was interviewed by the lovely Thomas from @aspergersgrowth on his podcast ‘Thoughty Auti’.

It went live last Saturday so go check it out! It’s everywhere you’d normally listen to podcasts and also on his YouTube channel too! Was such a nice chat and we talked all things sensory and autism related. Let me know what you think 💭

Fidget & Stim Subscription Box! 📦

This subscription box was kindly gifted to me by James Dickenson from Adapted James (@adaptedjames on Instagram) and on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/AdaptedJames

The boxes explained: The subscription boxes are once a quarter (every three months) and they are themed. There are three tiers, the bottom tier having something to do, something to squish, a neurodiversity badge, a fiddle puzzle, and 2 more stim things.

Tier 2 has everything from 1 and a chew, and tier 3 has everything from 2 and a fiddle mat. You can also buy them as one off boxes from the Adapted James Etsy store for a few pounds more (which means that you can still get the box that I was sent)

Sensory Supermarket Trip 🛒

Hi everyone! This video documents my visit to a supermarket (in the UK) as a sensory-person! I explain throughout the video via captions how I am feeling and what is affecting me. Do you also struggle in supermarkets or shopping situations? If you have any good coping mechanisms feel free to share them in the comments below!

‘Some autistic feels’

So I received this super awesome ‘lil zine in the post from the super lovely Megan Rhiannon’s Etsy shop this week! It’s intricate illustrations are beautiful and give a little insight into ‘Some autistic feels’. Have a little click through the slideshow of images above which give a little sneak peek of some of the pages!

Some of my own autistic feels:

  • Living in big comfy baggy jumpers and skinny jeans all day everyday. I would dress in grey and black 24/7 if I could!
  • Hot drinks: specifically tea which is my go to hot drink…(with plain digestive biscuits!)
  • My weighted blanket: I use it every night without fail and during the day if I feel stressed out or anxious (it’s from Sensory Direct)
  • My phone: I listen to lots of podcasts and audiobooks to keep me distracted and to learn on the go about new things. (I might do a little blog post listing all the podcasts I love) I also love taking photos and videos of quirky things.
  • My wave projector: I use this most nights, it replicates sea waves moving and it’s super calming to watch 😍
  • My Sensory DIY Box: my go-to when I need to fidget or calm down sensory-wise. Currently loving my little fidget cube and tangle!

So there are some of my own autistic feels – let me know what little things you use everyday to self-soothe or distract yourself in the comments below…

DIY Sensory Box: A VIDEO?!

I have decided to do post an updated sensory box in the form of a video (fancy I know…)

The last time I photographed my sensory box it was super popular (and was at the very start of my blog: see it here) so I thought it was worth doing an updated version. I’ve included all the things that I use apart from 2 things:

  1. My weighted blanket: It’s flipping huge and I can’t fit it in the box but it is something I use daily…
  2. My wave projector: Again it’s just too big to fit in the box but something I use every night!

Do let me know what you think and if you have a sensory box or fidget toy box too! Also do comment below this post if there are any future videos you would like to see from me.
